Key Roles of Departmental and Divisional Chairs in the APT Process
The departmental and/or divisional chair:
- Initiates the search or hiring for appointment of new faculty or informs candidates of a review for promotion and approximate timing
- Forms the faculty review committee to be approved by dean
- Holds meeting for eligible faculty to review committee report of candidate and holds and records secret ballot vote on that review committee's recommendation
- Forwards the departmental vote and review committee's recommendation to the dean via a confidential Chair's Report with required supplementary documentation which includes the chair's recommendation
